FASFA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Both the student and one parent need to create an FSA ID on the Federal Student Aid website. This will serve as your electronic signature on the FAFSA. This will need to be completed before the FAFSA application and only needs to be done once. You will use the same FSA ID each year.
Parents: if you have multiple students, you only need to create one FSA ID, and you will use it for all of your children.
Anyone who wants federal financial aid for college will need to fill out the FASFA application. The application is used to determine the dollar amount you or your family will be expected to contribute towards college. All federal grant and loan awards are determined by FASFA, and nearly all colleges use FASFA as the basis for their own financial aid awards.
The application takes about one hour to complete, if you have all of the necessary documents on hand before you begin.
